Dress Rehearsal

What is an open dress rehearsal?
In class we have been informal about rehearsals. However, a dress rehearsal is a very important part of the actual performance.
When we have a professional dress rehearsal, the entire performance will be run from beginning to end, exactly as the real performances will be, including pauses for intermissions. An "open dress" is a dress rehearsal to which specific individuals have been invited to attend as audience members.
Dress Rehearsals are CRUCIAL and extremely important to the well being and integrity of any production. Dancers who miss Dress Rehearsals put themselves, their classmates, and the production at risk for substandard performances.
The dress rehearsal is a full-scale rehearsal where the dancers perform every detail of the performance. For a dance performance, dancers wear their costumes. The ensemble members may use props and backdrops.
Dancers are responsible for their own makeup. During the dress rehearsal period, assistance in the design and technique appropriate to each character will be provided, but normally each dancer should be able to apply their own makeup following the final dress rehearsal.
Green Room Conduct is also very important. During final rehearsals and performances the Green Room is a place for the participants in the production to wait for and prepare for their performance.
Dress rehearsals are primarily for the dancers to practice with the lights and an audience. It is also for the lighting/sound crew to determine levels for the show. In a real performance space, your dance may be interrupted, started over, &/or adjusted while on stage.
